HISTORY
ORIGIN OF THE BRAND
The word "Boucanier" is derived from the French word"boucan", which refers to an old barbecue method and which was used on the Hispaniola island (present-day Haïti and the Dominican Republic), where deserters from various navies, as well as European outlaws, lived in the XVIIth century. They called themselves "buccaneers" and formed the first ships' crews for boarding and robbing mainly Spanish sailing vessels in the Caribbean. The "Buccaneers" loved their spirits such as rum and, of course, exceptional and strong beer. Consequently, "Bière du Boucanier" made its appearance.
ORIGIN OF THE PRODUCT
The legendary “Bière du Boucanier” beers are produced in the north of Belgium in the region of East Flanders (Oost-Vlaanderen) using the Belgian traditional brewing process (top fermentation, refermented in the bottle adding sugar and yeast, unpasteurized, unfiltered) with rigorously selected natural first-rate ingredients and yeast cells isolated in the brewery, the water comes solely from the wells located on the brewery grounds. This is the real and only natural brewing traditions. A traditional process that preserves the purity and naturalness of the production granting exquisite nuances of flavour.

Boucanier Golden, defined in the insert LEKKERBEK (Gourmet) of the Belgian daily newspaper Gentenaar of 7 October 2001 as one of the "Three Top" of the "Belgian strong ale & triple ale" category. The Belgian sommelier group “OBJECTIVE BEER TASTERS”, before they knew which beers had drunk blindly, the beer tasters have indicated their favorites first three, between these is Bière du Boucanier.
For the high quality and excellent taste Boucanier Golden Ale:
- won the golden medal with 3 stars of the “SUPERIOR TASTE AWARD 2014” of ITQI (INTERNATIONAL TASTE & QUALITY INSTITUTE) in Brussels;
- became a Country Winner in the selection of the "WORLD BEER AWARDS 2019" in the UK;
- won the silver medal at the "LONDON BEER COMPETITION 2019";
- obtained the Grand Gold 2020, important German award by "FRANKFURT INTERNATIONAL TROPHY";

- May 2023 in Mainz a German city on the Rhine River, in the "WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL TROPHY" competition the Bière du Boucanier Golden won the silver medal;
- In 2023 the Boucanier Golden gained 91 points and entered in the list of FINEST BEER SELECTION in Germany and won a bronze medal in "GREATER POLAND BEER CUP".

Cherry Flavoured Red Beer
The rich flavour of Caribbean cherries such as Barbados and Martinique acerola (Caribbean cherry) or West Indian cherry, transformed into aromas that when added to our low-alcohol beer, similar to 'bière blanche' (wheat is among the ingredients in addition to barley malt), give life to 'Boucanier Cherry Flavoured', a 4.8% alcohol beer pleasantly flavoured with this red berry.
An inviting and thirst-quenching drink that reminds the Caribbean drinks, suitable on hot days or to accompany any dessert, also ideal with ice cream. In November 2023, the GREATER POLAND BEER CUP competition took place in the city of Poznań in western Poland. This is the most important concours in Eastern Europe organised since 2013, in which the best beers are selected by a jury of experts. Here the Boucanier Golden was awarded the bronze medal.

Concours International de Lyon FRANCE
Lyon is recognised as the universal capital of gastronomy, so it is a natural showcase for the world's best food products. On 27-03-21 the Boucanier Golden was awarded the silver medal in this competition, the "Concours International de Lyon" is a key event in the world of beer.
Around 9,300 samples from 43 countries were tasted in 2021. The operators, experts and international sommeliers from all sectors of beverage and qualified gastronomy have made this competition an important event in their activity. The competition follows strict rules regarding its organisation with blind tastings.
The tasters are the pillar of the concours and the producers who submit their products confide in the impartiality and professionalism of the judges. This is why the Concours International de Lyon has set up a very strict, multi-stage selection process for recruiting and approving the tasters.

3rd October 2020. Bière du Boucanier Golden participated in the fifth edition of the CICA Awards 2020 competition in Madrid, Spain, in the category "Ales fuertes belgas" (BELGIAN STRONG ALE), winning the silver medal. This is another trophy obtained by our "Boucanier Golden", adding another medal to the rich collection of prestigious international awards won by this beer.
CICA Awards has an international character and includes beers produced with craft methods from all over the world. The tastings are carried out through the blind tasting system and take place at the Spanish School of Tasting in Madrid. The Jury is made up of specialists with high technical and professional skills, for this the BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) certification is required.
The International Beer Challenge

October 2020. Bière du Boucanier Golden gets the Silver Medal in the category "Ale". The awards given by the IBC Tasting Awards are established through a rigorous evaluation process with blind tastings by the jury of more than 70 experts consisting of esteemed retailers, importers, brewers, specialist beverage writers and taste analysts (sommeliers). Each judge assesses the products and awards a well made and interesting beer that deserves to be considered.
Each product is blind tasted and awarded for its aroma, appearance, taste and finishing, and in some cases no medal is given. The tastings are carried out in Burgess Hill in West Sussex, South England in one of the greenest and most environmentally counties in Great Britain close to the English Channel.
Frankfurt International Trophy GERMANY
In the middle of March 2020 our Bière du Boucanier Golden Ale obtained an important German award in Frankfurt am Main, winning the "GRAND GOLD 2020", the most prestigious prize in the scale of the three medals put in competition by the Frankfurt International Trophy among 473 beers selected and evaluated by an authoritative jury composed of beer experts, master brewers, beverage and food journalists and beer sommeliers.
The competition has strong ties to the restaurant world and is represented each year by an honorary president of renown (famous German Michelin star chef). For the 2020 edition, Nils Henkel, chef at the restaurant "Schwarzenstein, Geisenheim-Johannisberg" (two Michelin stars), is the Honorary president of the Frankfurt International Trophy.

The "Boucanier Golden Ale" has received the highest award of the "SUPERIOR TASTE AWARD" with three gold stars by the organization "International Taste & Quality Institute" in Brussels in the year 2014.
In the blind-test tasting, the "Boucanier Golden Ale" was chosen as the best by the jury composed of 120 chefs, many of them with Michelin Star and authoritative professional sommeliers, all with qualified tasting experience who examined hundreds of food & beverage products from over 130 countries around the world.

In Antwerp in 2001 the prestigious Belgian organization of “Beer Sommeliers” (“De Objectifs Bier Proevers – Les Taste Bières Objectifs”), led by Dirk Van Dyck owner of Antwerp's famous "Kulminator" (According to the beer lovers from Ratebeer, beer-pub the Kulminator is voted as the Best Beer – Pub in the World), during a tasting event, indicated their preferences in the category of Belgian Golden Strong Ale beers.
Before knowing which beers, they drank blindly, the beer tasters chose the first three best products: Gouden Carolus Triple, Special Blond and Bière du Boucanier (Golden). The beers tasted were Gordon Finest Gold Blond, Kastel Bier Triple, Gouden Carolus Triple, Judas, Lamoral Triple, Delirium Tremens, Piraat, Brigand, Angel, Duvel, Special Blond, Bière du Boucanier (Golden), Julius.

At the last edition held on Friday, 13 May 2022, samples from 29 nations were tasted at the Women's International Trophy. The 'Women's International Trophy' is a competition for the evaluation of wines, spirits and beers that takes place annually to reward the best products of the beverage world. But the specific feature of this competition consists in the fact that it is the only one in the world organised with an international jury composed exclusively of experienced female tasters.
Each sample is tested blindly by an international jury composed of only women, all very experienced, evaluating according to the criteria of sensory analysis defined by the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine). The wines, spirits and beers are only awarded after a rigorous evaluation process. Both buyers and consumers benefit from the high standards of the award product selection.
At the last Women's International Trophy 950 samples were tasted. More than 80 female tasters, only professionals in the sector., were present.
Results 2022: 302 samples were awarded medals, including 230 with gold medals, including Boucanier Caribbean Ale and Boucanier Dark Ale. And our Boucanier Red Ale received the silver medal. These medals testify to the high quality of the products and the care with which they are made and a guarantee of quality for both consumers and buyers.

Concours des bières d'Avignon FRANCE
A highly prestigious competition, organised in partnership with the COMMANDERIE DES COSTES DU RHONE association. Avignon is located in the Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (Département du Vaucluse) and it is an important city in Provence that was the seat of the Catholic Popes from 1309 to 1377.
The world-famous 'Côtes du Rhône' fine French wines with the regional designation of the Rhône Valley (Vallée du Rhône) are produced here.
The jury is made up of judges selected from among eminent sommeliers and a team of international beer experts, who taste and judge the products presented at the CONCOURS DES BIÈRES D'AVIGNON. The severity of the judgments and the austerity of the selections of beverages to be awarded, are among the most rigorous practised in these competitions, given the seriousness and professionalism of the judges, many of whom belong to the 'Côtes du Rhône' Wine Association.
Here the Boucanier Dark and Boucanier Caribbean Ale were awarded the Gold Medal 2023 and the Boucanier Red Ale the Bronze Medal 2023.
